Great Delta Bear Affair 2019 will give back to the Sharkey-Issaquena community by pledging all donations collected at the entrances to the festival area to help those affected by this year’s months-long flood. With hundreds of homes affected by the Yazoo backwater flood, a long-term recovery fund has been established through the Community Foundation for Washington County.
Any money donated to this fund will go to help people in Sharkey, Issaquena and Humphreys counties who are uninsured, underinsured, or will simply fall through the cracks when it comes to any kind of assistance.
The Great Delta Bear Affair is technically a free festival, but for the past several years, festival-goers have been encouraged to make a $3.00/person donation at festival entrances. This money has been used to fill out the festival’s general operation budget. However, the festival committee has decided to donate those funds collected at this year’s festival toward the South Delta Disaster Recovery Fund.
Festival planners are thrilled to be able to give to this worthy cause in this way, and want to encourage everyone to donate when they come to the Great Delta Bear Affair in order to help our neighbors that have suffered so much this year.
